Crash Aug 26

Today has been a roller coaster.  I’ve gone from fire coming out of my eyes to tears pouring from them.  I’m not sure I want to talk about the fire because the post might turn into a full blown rant and that’s where I want to go right now.  Nutshell people can’t do their jobs therefore it makes it hard for me to do mine.  This encompass several things so I think it will do.

After a last minute error keying in an order and frantic call to a carrier, thankfully something they could easily fix, I ran out of the office a few minutes late.  I HATE leaving work late.  As a general rule I try to be out exactly on time if not a minute early.  🙂

But as luck would have it I guess it was good I was running a few minutes late.  I hit I40 with little traffic and was on my way.  I turned on to Edwards Mill, just like normal.  The light at Edwards Mill and Duraleigh always backs up traffic especially the left lane, where cars need to be in order to turn.  This is pretty normal so as I’m coming over the hill and see break lights I am pretty prepared to stop and to stop quickly if needed.  As I’m stopping I see the car in front of the car in front of me swerve left into the median and dust kick up.  I think the car in front of me went right (honestly I can’t remember) only to look up and see a motorcycle and rider on the ground.  I immediately stop a good distance back, hit my hazards and jump out of the car.  At this point there are several others out of their cars as well.  I have my cell and I’m ready to call 911 if needed.  As I get closer, the rider is moving and talking.  I hear him say that he was not hit but wrecked the bike.  I ask if I need to call 911 and his reply is no.  He lays there for a minute and then manages to get to his feet.  Thankfully he was wearing full motorcycle gear and didn’t appear to be hurt.  He was able to get the bike up and out of the road.  After a few tries he manages to get the bike to start.   I finally hopped in my car and moved it out of the road so traffic could continue.

Once the biker realizes the bike is fine he is ready to move it over to the side street.  A couple people manage to stop the oncoming traffic so he is able to safely get the bike across the street.  With him out of the way the rest of us return to our cars and continue on.

HOLY SH!T!!!  That really just happened.  And while I didn’t actually see the guy wreck it still rattled me.  I called M to tell him what had just happened and burst into tears.  I manage to get out that I’m okay and finally tell him what happened.

When I got home I recounted the event again.  We suppose the rider either couldn’t stop in time and laid the bike down or hit the breaks which may have caused him to lose control and fall.  Whatever happened he is lucky he didn’t get hit because as I was walking back to move my car out of the way I noticed blue paint on the pavement.  I stopped a good 15-20 feet behind where he was laying.

So for those who ride motorcycles please wear the gear.  The accident today would have been a much different scene without it.
