Smell the day Jan 14

Do you ever smell something and it takes you to a place you had long forgotten?  This happens to me a lot actually.  Sometimes smells will just “come” and it makes me think of a certain time or place.  Most of the time I love when this happens.  Being transported to a memory you forgot you had.

The other day I was checking out a fellow knottie’s planning bio, she has a LARGE to-do checklist.  It was overwhelming really.  🙂  But as I skimmed down the list I noticed one particular item.  *Buy new fragrance and wear for wedding related events.  Hmmmm, really?  This made me stop and pause for a minute.  I had never thought to do this.  Why?  I have no idea considering.

A week or so before M and I went to London 2 years ago I picked up a new body spray at Target.  I wanted something that would travel easily and didn’t feel like lugging my regular perfume around.  The body spray I grabbed is pretty different from my normal everyday perfume and I thought it was nice to have a new “smell” while we were on vacation.  Ever since then, when I use the body spray I immediately think of our trip to London.  Funny huh?

Well that’s the point of this post.  It’s funny because just the other day I used the body spray, thought about how it always reminded me of London but never thought to do the same for our wedding.

I told M this morning that each of us needed to get a new scent that we only wear for wedding related things.  When I reminded him of the body spray and how it reminds both of us of London, he agreed.  Granted we will just pick up something inexpensive since we both got more perfume and cologne for Christmas.

I’m kind of excited about this and want to thank this knottie for sharing.  I can’t wait to have something that will transport me back to such a special event in my life.  Things like anniversaries will hopefully be a bit more special when that certain “smell” is used.

TGIF!

No ring for you! Jan 13

Last night M and I ran by the jewelry store on our way home to pick up my wedding band.  We walk into the store, the girl says she will go and grab the ring and we start to wonder around.  A few minutes later she comes and finds us.  She takes the box, opens it up and hands it to me.  I look and…….it’s the WRONG ring.  I look at the ring and look at her and say “this is the wrong ring.”  I begin telling her what the ring was supposed to look like and we all head over to find the original ring I looked at.  Once we find it she agrees it is not correct and goes to find the girl who sold us the ring to see what happened.

The girl we bought the ring from comes out and explains the designer sent the wrong style number.  My ring was like EDxxx and the one they sent was ADxxx.  She said she would contact the designer and get the correct ring sent out.

I was a little disappointed that my ring was incorrect.  But after seeing the one that I love, I knew it would be worth the extra wait.  Plus we still have 4 months (to the day 😉 ) left.

While we were there I told M we needed to look for his ring.  After wondering around and looking in case after case another sales girl came to help us.  M told her what he would like in a ring and what he didn’t want.  With all of that she suggested we look at Palladium rings.  They are durable like platinum and naturally white in color yet they are a fraction of the price.  Plus they were all super lightweight.

The sales girl pulled a few rings, M and I both suggested a few and before I knew it M had 3 in the running.  He continued to go back and forth between the 3 and then narrowed it down to 2.  We liked both and I told him that it was his choice since he would have to wear it FOREVER!  🙂  A few minutes later he picked one.  Aaaaahhhhhhhh!  Really?!?!?  I was very excited that he actually picked one and said this is it, let’s get it.  I really figured he would say he wanted to think about it but he made a decision.

I really like the ring he picked out.  I like that he really likes it.  The price was good and it’s a ring that he can keep forever.  It can be engraved and sized if needed.

Now we are waiting for his ring to come in and my correct ring to come back.  I guess there will be another ring post in 4 to 6 weeks.  🙂

It’s here! Jan 12

YAY!  A wedding check finally.  I ordered my wedding band the beginning of December and the sales girl told me it should be ready before Christmas.  Well here we are several weeks AFTER Christmas and I had yet to receive a call that my band was in.  I finally decided to call today and see if I could get the status.  I know I still have 4 more months but I was growing a little impatient.  I was very excited when the girl told me it has just arrived.

I immediately IM’ed M to let him know.  Hopefully we can go after work and pick it up.  Plus we REALLY REALLY need to find his wedding band.  I suggested he go after work and I could meet him there.  I kind of think he might do better trying to find a ring if I’m not there.  I think this will let him focus more on what he likes and wants.

I really hope I like my ring.  I haven’t seen it or even what it might actually look like.  I know the ring that I liked and I’ve seen a few online that should be similar.  I hope it love it.  🙂

We are the Champions…. Jan 11

of College football!  Woo Hoo!  My beloved War Eagles managed to pull out a victory over #2 Oregon last night.  With a final score of 22 – 19, Auburn kicked a field goal to put my tigers on top.  And just like that Auburn has proven that they are the BEST team in the country.

With all the drama surrounding our season, I was glad to see the Auburn community join together and stand behind our team and our players.  What a great feeling!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR EAGLE HEY!!!!!!!!

Impatiently waiting! Jan 10

Friday and Saturday pretty much sucked.  I woke up Friday morning, hopped in the shower and was just about to start my make-up when it hit.  This yucky gross feeling.  M told me something was going around and I should go back to bed.  I called in sick and back to bed I went.  Saturday was pretty much a repeat of Friday minus a few movies I managed to watch in between napping.

Thankfully yesterday I woke up feeling a little better.  M said he was hungry and we went downstairs to make breakfast.  Mmmm, eggs and toast.  This was the first real meal I’d had since Thursday.  So it was nice to get some food in my belly.

I still didn’t manage to do a lot but I did start working on my photography website, again!  I feel like this thing is my nemesis.  I’m trying to work with what I have that is free.  So no awesome flash site yet.  M says I have to start making money before I can get one of those.  🙁  I can’t say I really disagree though.

Finally after searching and looking, I finally settled on a basic design that I could work with.  At least for now.  I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon working on a header pic and cleaning it up.  It isn’t much and it’s NOT special but I think it looks okay.  Now I just need to start pulling pics to upload to it.

Now I’m sitting here on pins and needles waiting for the snow to come.  It seems as thought it is all around us but it just won’t hurry up and GET HERE!  Raleigh is expected to end up with a lot of ice but I really hope we get a lot of snow too.  Places around us and to the snow have already gotten 6+ inches!  UGHHH!

Dear Snow,

Please hurry up and come to Raleigh.  We are anxiously awaiting your arrival.

Thanks!

Just breathe, maybe, someday? Jan 06

Another day and another doctor visit.  My head is still all clogged up and breathing continues to be an issue.  I decided to just bite the bullet and head back to make sure I didn’t have another sinus infection.  Luckily the doctor said I don’t have an infection but my nasal passages are very constricted.  So it looks like there will be an air purifier in our near future.

We had kind of been holding off on buying one but since I don’t have an infection and M seems to wake up stuffy too, it looks like the time has come.  Hopefully I will notice a difference and I will finally be able to breathe again.  I feel like I’ve had issues for the past year.  Which is probably true.  I also don’t want to admit that I might have some cat allergies.  I think it might have been a combo of moving into M’s house and getting Julio.  And well neither of those are going to change.  I am NOT giving up my kitties.  I will be stuffy forever.  🙂

In wedding related news, people are starting to get our invitations.  YAY!  And everyone seems to like them.  Of course it was only after they had been printed and sent that I found out it is apparently “bad etiquette” to use your future last initial before the wedding.  Okay seriously, wtf?  I understand most of the etiquette rules and why they should apply but really?  I can’t use an initial?  Well too late on that one.  Now I have broken some rules and I’m okay with that.  Some of them are really quite dumb.  And Ms. Emily Post can roll over in her grave because *gasp* I didn’t send adult children living at home their own invite.  I’m sorry.  Or the one of many other rules I may have broken.

Eh, wedding rant over.

Hopefully in the next few days I will start breathing better and maybe next week won’t be so damn boring. 😉

What is the “it”? Jan 05

I feel like today has been kind of an odd day.  I’m not sure what it is but I feel like there is more I should be doing.  I have no idea what that “it” is.  There has just been this nagging feeling hanging around me all day.

It started this morning as I was scrapping the ice off my windshield.  Maybe it’s the cool little thing I use to get the ice off that’s not actually an ice scrapper but works better then anything else I’ve tried.  A million dollar idea?  Perhaps.  The dream of becoming an infomercial icon?  Possibly.

Who knows what it is since I don’t have any idea.  Whatever that feeling is, I wish an idea would materialize or this feeling would go away.

I wish I felt I could make my ideas a reality.  All of the wedding planning has really kicked my creative side into gear.  If only I felt people would pay me to do something.  I have really enjoyed all the making and doing that comes along with planning a wedding.  But what can I make, what can I do?  I don’t know.

Ugh, I feel like this post is starting to spiral out of control.  All the what if’s and what can’s.  Eh.  Maybe tomorrow will be better, otherwise this will be a week of suckatude in blog land.  🙂

Boring blog post # 287 (but who’s counting) Jan 04

Hmmmm, what did I do today?  Oh yeah, not much.  🙂  Work was pretty boring.  It was my co-workers birthday so I went to lunch with her and a few other co-workers.  This means I got to have sushi for lunch.  YAY!  I never get sushi because M is allergic to shellfish and isn’t crazy about fish.

I did manage to update our wedding website for guests since the invitations should start arriving today.

Boring blog post over.

*let’s hope tomorrow is more eventful.  🙂

One tenth of an ounce! Jan 03

While I was off for vacation I decided that, no matter what, I would get our wedding invitations ready to go out the first week of January.  Yesterday M and I ran to Kinko’s so we could get our lovely invitations printed and not waste our time.  I was more then a little surprised when the guy behind the counter looked at the invitation, looked at me and said, “it has to be a full sheet of paper.”  Umm, what!?!?!

After the confusion passed, we headed back to the house to figure out what kind of ink we needed so we could print them ourselves.  When we got home M set the printer up on the table and helped me figure out exactly what I needed to do.  I played around with the color and had almost given up when I finally found a pink that would work.  It was a little lighter then I wanted but the darker ones were either too red or too purple.

Once I was set on my color I began printing off my invitations and accommodations cards.  After I had everything printed out I set up a little station on the coffee table and began to construct my invites.  Which basically means I put the invitation in the holder and then put the accommodations card on top of that.  Then I stuffed all the invitations into the nice and pretty handwritten envelopes, sealed them and put a sticker on the back.

Determined to get these suckers out TODAY I packed everything up neatly last night so I could do my usual run out the door in the morning.  At lunch I decided I would run to the post office and pick up my stamps.  Since the invitations felt pretty light I was sure they would be regular postage.  Yep, I was wrong!  I think there is some wedding conspiracy!

I get up to the window and ask the lady to weigh the invite just to make sure.  Sure enough they are .1 ounce over!  ONE TENTH of an ounce over!  Seriously!?!?!?!  Arggg!  Anyway, the lady figures up the postage I need and rings me up.  Postage alone cost almost as much as the stupid invites and they were CHEAP.  But spending that on postage is stupid!

Needless to say the invitations are out.  People should start receiving them in the next few days.

The new year has really brought a new excitement about the wedding.  Each day that passes gets us one day closer.  Each week is one week closer.  I’m glad the new year brought this excitement because I still have a few more DIY’s I need to finish up.
