A little wine and music Jul 29

So I’m actually gonna write tomorrow’s blog right now since I have the day off.  And well it just feels like a good time to write.

The other night I decided to open the bottle of wine some friends gave me for taking pics at their wedding.  I decided it might be a good idea not to finish the bottle the other night and I’m glad I saved it for now.  M and I decided to have spaghetti for dinner, which goes GREAT with red wine.  :)  So now M and I are sitting on the couch listening to music, I’m drinking wine and I’ve been reading blogs.  There is nothing on TV and I felt more inclined to sit and write.  I will grab a book soon and join him in the the calmness of the night.  It just feels like the right thing to do.

I talk about Julio on here quite often but I don’t think I’ve said much about our/my other cat Halle.  I got Halle almost 10 years ago.  It was my last year of college and I was living by myself.  (There was a small incident with my roommate, her bf and the cops.  He came to our place and beat her up, with me there, NOT COOL.)  Anyway I convinced my landlord to let me get a kitten.  I grew up with cats and I couldn’t wait to get my very own kitten.  Hal was such a cute little girl.  Solid black, only a tiny white spot on her belly.  Because it was just me and her I talked to her alot and in return she started talking back….boy if I’d only known.  She has been an only kitty most of her life except for brief stints living with my parents, it was just me and her.  I have to admit that I don’t give her the attention I used to, but she isn’t really an affectionate cat.  She likes her Halle space and cuddles when she wants.  I’m sure it has been a big adjustment moving to M’s house and then there’s Julio (her nightmare).  But she is still my Hal.

Hal’s always been a “I want what you have” type cat.  This pretty much includes everything food related.  I even found that just like her mom, she likes red wine.  So as I refilled my glass tonight and saw her laying on the stairs I decided to see if she’d like a drop or two.  I will put my finger in the glass get a drop and let her lick it off.  She likes wine.  It’s good.  :)  Anyway as I was going to get a drop from the glass Julio decided he had to know what was going on.  He walks over, smells the glass, backs away and then moves closer to Hal’s mouth.  As he does this I accidentally hit his face with the drop of wine.  He immediately grimaces, backs away, shakes his head and scurries off.  It was really quite funny.

***I hope no one finds this post offensive.  I do NOT get my cat drunk, only a few drops licked off my finger.

Well I guess I will join M in the solace of a good book.  I am currently reading Finger Lickin’ Fifteen by Janet Evanovich.  It is a great series if you haven’t read them.  They are easy reads and Laugh out Loud funny!

Enjoy your Friday!

Random Stuff Jul 29

Last night was day 2 of Fit to K (I’m changing the name, it just sounds better).  Anyway I managed to run 7 minutes last night.  One whole minute more then Monday.  Baby steps, baby steps.  I am proud of myself.  Now to just keep it up.  I’ve decided that this go round I am going to focus more on time then distance or calories.  I think that will be the best way to actually improve my cardio.  Plus it would be nice if I could actually just run a mile.  Just one.  Not asking for too much here, but it would be nice to know that I could go out and run a mile if I felt like it.  Of course I don’t want to limit myself but it’s kind of embarrassing when you can’t run just a mile.

Yesterday I started my search for Save the Date envelopes.  I knew I didn’t just want plain white envelopes.  I have a plan ;)  And since I don’t want to give too much away, I’ll just that I wanted colored, shocker, envelopes.  I found a place online that had the envelopes in the color I was looking for.  Even though I had to buy a pack of 100 they would be cheaper then the plain ones I could buy at Staples.  I thought it was hilarious that the envelopes were less then $10.00 but the shipping was almost that.  Oh well.  I saved so much on the Save the Dates that I figured I could spend a little more envelopes.

In other news, oh, there is no other news.  I have tomorrow off so I may not post until late.  This week I’ve been back to my lunch time posting.  Next week should be crazy though.  My co-worker is leaving and a new one is starting.  And if things stay as busy as they have been I’m gonna be SCREWED!  Orders have been pretty constant along with a barrage of random things coming my way and trying to train someone new should be interesting.  I foresee a lot of notes and screenshots for him.  :)  Hey what can I say, I’m a great teacher.  HEHE!

And my apologies for yesterdays blog title.  That might qualify for the LAMEST blog title to date!  Happy Friday to me!  Happy Thursday to everyone else. 🙂

Half off and an eye Jul 28

After hitting the boards yesterday I got some pretty good advice regarding Vista Print.  For those of you who don’t know, it is WONDERFUL!  They do everything from business supplies to save the dates.  Their prices are pretty reasonable and they always seem to have free items and sales.

Since I uploaded my Save the Dates to their site and had heard rave reviews about them, I was almost ready to order.  I did one final look at my cart and decided to search online to see if I could find a coupon.  I was actually hoping to find some free shipping but what I found instead was large magnets half price.  That’s right HALF PRICE!  So what would have cost around a 1.50 each now only cost me .50 each.  I was SO excited when I found the coupon and updated my cart.  At this point I decided I HAD to order right then.  I showed M our final total and placed our order.  I choose the “slow shipping” method which is supposed to take 21 days but I think I can handle that.  Now I’ve decided that I need to find cute envelopes, I mean HELLO, I saved money so I can upgrade right? 🙂

I must say I am pretty proud of myself.  I have only managed to show 2 people the new Save the Dates.  I decided they would be a surprise since EVERYONE saw the first couple of designs.  🙂

Yesterday afternoon my eye started to bother me, to the point that I took my contacts out for most of the afternoon.  I could tell I had something in my eye but every time I thought I could get it, it would move again.  So frustrating.  As I was driving home it actually almost covered my contact but seeing as I was trying to drive and I was about half a mile from the house I figured I could wait til I got home.  As soon as I pulled in the driveway and opened the vanity mirror it was gone.  Seriously!  Once I got in I took my contacts out and looked around in my eye.  Nothing there, but I could still feel it.  This went on most of the night and on and off it felt better and worse.  Finally I went upstairs and decided enough was enough, I had to get whatever it was out.  After flushing it several times, and trying other methods, I was completely unsuccessful.  So when I woke up around 4 and it was still bothering me I decided to try again.  I didn’t think I got it but when I woke up this morning it felt better.  I wore my glasses today in hopes my eye will feel better and so far it’s fine.

M is constantly amazing at all the crap that manages to find its way into my eyes.  This is actually a pretty common occurrence but normally I am able to get whatever it is out.  When I went back to bed at 4 I had actually planned to just go to the eye doctor this morning.  Thankfully, all is almost well again.

K to fit, the beginning! Jul 27

Six minutes.  Six whole minutes.  That’s how long I ran last night on the treadmill.  I walked the other 21 minutes but I was able to run for 6 without stopping.  I know this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but coming from the girl who was barely able to run a minute and a half to three minutes a few months ago I feel pretty accomplished.  At the beginning of the year M and I decided to start going to the gym down from our house.  And I decided I was going to start the couch to 5k training.  It’s not incredibly hard but OMG I never made it past week 3 I think.  I’m not sure why my cardio seemed a little better yesterday.  Normally when I’m running I start to feel my chest get tight and I feel like I literally can’t breathe.  But not yesterday.  Yesterday was pretty good.

After our workout M and I hit the grocery store, which is luckily right next door to the gym, and bought more food.  This time we were more conscious of what we were buying.  I tried to pick up items that were more healthy and less junky.  My hope is that in a few weeks I will be in a routine of eating healthier and working out on a regular basis.

This time around my motives for working out are less appearance  based and more health based.  Because I’ve never really had weight issues I’ve never really felt the need to “have to work-out”.  And when I did work out it was only to drop 5 lbs here or there and as soon as it was gone I was done.  However there are a lot of things changing in my life.  M and I are planning a wedding and soon after looking to start a family.  I think the thought of having a baby is a motivator too.  I would like to be in good shape when I get pregnant.  Plus I want to be as healthy as I can for our baby.  Yes this is still a ways off but we are starting to think about the future.

Now if I can drag my sorry self back to the gym today it will be Day 2 of K to fit.  🙂

**and on a side note I finished our save the dates last night.  new design, new everything.  it only took 3 hours and numerous cuss words at photoshop.  but they should be ready to go to print THIS week.  🙂

Day 1 Jul 26

Back story:  When I was 19 I was diagnosed with a Mitral Valve Prolapse or MVP.  Basically it means that the valve in my heart doesn’t close all the way and can cause palpitations and fluttering.  Not really a big deal but something that can bother you from time to time.

A couple of months ago I was referred to a cardiologist because I felt like my heart had been acting up more recently.   They did some testing, echos, stress tests, hooked me up to a heart monitor for a few weeks, all to see what was going on.  On my follow up, the doctor told me that for  my age my heart looked great.  There was very little leakage from my valve and that it was no longer classified as MVP.  I guess they changed the criteria several years ago.  I liked the doctor but he didn’t do a great job of explaining what the next steps should be.  He told me I could continue to take my meds if I wanted and I was done.

A few weeks ago I went to make an appointment with my GP, only to find out she was no longer at the practice, so I made an appointment with another doctor there to get my heart meds refilled.  I have to say, I’m still not sure how I feel about the new doc, but she was if anything very thorough.  She took the time to really explain to me what the cardiologist found, the meds I was on, and what they did and why I no longer needed them.  She also said that she wanted to do some blood work to check a few things.  Well on Friday I got my lab results back.  Ohhhh yeah, ummmm I have some changes to make.  According to the results my cholesterol is high (although that runs on my dad’s side and it’s not too high) but the more disturbing result was my CRP (?) level.  This measures your cardiovascular health.  Normal levels should be in the 1-2 range.  Mine, 4.9.  I think this means I am high risk for heart disease.  There was a lot of “increase cardio” on the lab results.  M was pretty concerned this level was so high.  My thought was, “no wonder I feel like I’m gonna die when I work out.”  HA!  But seriously this means there are going to be some changes at Casa de Edwards.

M has decided that we are hitting the gym again.   Which really is good.  We both need to get up and move a little more.  And while M is better about eating healthier then I do, it looks like the menu at home is about to change.  I am going to start looking for things that we can add more veggies too.  And I will probably start buying veggies at the store to cook.

So wish me luck as we begin our “K to fit” cause tonight.

1500+ Jul 23

Over the night I hit 1500, YAY!  It’s the small things that make me happy.  I don’t really think I have much to say today so I will leave you with a pic of  my completed wedding day flip flops.  Enjoy and have a great weekend.

What a deal! Jul 22

Today at lunch I decided to run to Stein Mart and see if I couldn’t find a cute cheap sundress to wear.  I must confess, I LOVE sundresses.  I think I would wear them all the time if I could actually find a few I like.  I found a black one a few months ago and I wear it a lot.  It is the dressiest causal dress I have.  I just change the color of the cami I wear underneath it.  Anyway, off to Stein Mart I went.  I wanted a sundress but I also thought I might find something for an upcoming wedding.  Well, just let me tell you what I found.  I found a GREAT deal.  I found 2 cute dresses that I liked, tried them on and thought they were okay.  Since both were on sale for under $20.00 I decided what the heck.  I would need some dresses for St. Lucia so I decided to get both.  Boy was I surprised when I got the register and the lady told me they were RED DOT specials and I would get another discount.  She grabbed a card and scratched off to see the additional savings.  Add another 33% to the already low price!  WOO HOO!  So I ended up with 2 dresses for under $25.00.  I am thrilled.  I even called M just to let him know the deal I had gotten.  🙂

I didn’t end up with a dress for the wedding but I do think that I am going to try and wear one of the new dresses for our pics this weekend.  I think I prefer to be on the other side of the camera but I don’t mind having my pic taken.  I will also really be glad to have a few good pics of M and I.  We have a usual pose that normally includes ones tongue sticking out.  Yes we are very mature. :)  What can I say, it’s our thing!  I’m sure we can even squeeze one of those in this weekend too.

Now if this day would end, I can’t wait to get home and show M my bargain finds for the day.  YAY!

Just book it! Jul 21

Well for today anyway I am back to lunch time blogging.  YAY!  Hopefully it won’t suck!

I just found out that M’s other grandmother, his aunt, uncle and his wife are all coming to our wedding.  This is great!  I am so excited that he will have such a good turn out for our big day.  My family, on the other hand is pretty scarce.  Not even my parents have managed to book their room yet.  I feel a little annoyed with my family actually.  I’ve had people who HAD to be invited, not even acknowledge that a date has now been set.  I understand people have their own lives but still, don’t “have to be invited” and then not respond to the fact that a date has been set.  Plus I called my grandmother last weekend to make sure she had received the email with all the wedding information.  I know she’s not coming and that’s fine but the first thing out of her mouth was “where is your dad?  has he gone yet?”  Okay, yeah.  I finally asked her if she’d seen the email and her reply was “that’s along time from now.”  Well I guess I won’t share anymore wedding info.

It is nice to know that other people go through all of this too.  The message boards are filled with girls who have all kinds of issues.  I  feel bad when I read some of the things these girls are dealing with.  Some of the issues I feel like I would completely loose it if it happened to me.  I’m not really sure why I am concerned that my family isn’t turning up for our wedding.  I wasn’t raised close to anyone really so I guess when you are in your 20’s and 30’s it’s not as easy to really connect and bond with cousins you barely knew.  Oh well.  The most important thing is that in 9 months, 3 weeks and 1 day I will be marrying the person I love most in the world.  YAY!

Check check checkity check Jul 20

Wedding flip flops are finished!  YAY!  I am so excited they look super cute AND they probably cost less than $20.00 to make.  I am very proud of myself for all the crafty-ness.  I think I have a handle on my cake topper.  I will probably add the crystals to it in the next few days.  Then I just have the hangers left but those are just a matter of drilling a few holes and adding a little glue.

M and I were able to figure out a time to meet with our friend this weekend to take a few pics.  I can’t wait to have these done and have the Save the Dates ready to go.  After that I feel like it will be smooth sailing until it’s invitation time.  Hopefully my dress will come in soon so I can get it to a tailor to be altered.

Ughhh, this whole blogging from home sucks!  For a while I had my routine down of blogging during my lunch hour but the past few days have really thrown me off since I’ve pretty much been working through lunch.  It is really not fun trying to eat and type and answer questions all at once.  I guess I should just leave for a little while but it’s just been too hot to go outside and there is no place really close to my office that is indoors.  On the bright side, I had someone come sit with me for about an hour today to see what I do.  This is hopefully my new co-worker.  He seemed like a really nice guy and I think he will do a good job.  My manager has heard nothing but good things about him plus he NEVER IM’s me which is good.  If I’m getting IM’s, well I shouldn’t be really, not from the group he works for currently, something is messed up and they have no idea what they are doing.  I will leave it at that.

I have to say with each passing day, I am getting more and more frustrated with my co-worker.  I understand he’s leaving and that’s fine but seriously, he could help out.  SOME!  Just a little!  Really!  He thinks his little antics are cute but I feel that the room is starting to get annoyed as well.  Everyone else is soooo busy except for him.  I’m like if you aren’t gonna work just leave now!  Ugh, I will try not to keep bitching but it is so annoying pulling all the weight.  *Crossing fingers something good will come from this*

Hopefully tomorrow I can find a few minutes to blog at work and maybe they will stop sucking!  Anyway, I feel good, I got a few things accomplished tonight.  Now I’m gonna see if I can get M to rub my back since it hurts!  🙂

DIY fool Jul 19

Last week I was so busy and now that my co-worker is back I thought things would calm down but apparently he plans to spend the next 2 weeks doing the least amount of work possible.  One of two things will happen, I will completely unload on his slack-ass OR I will tell my manager.  Yes the second option is a little middle schoolish but I’m scared the first option might lead to death, his not mine.

Anyway, since I am doing ALL the work at work, it leaves little time for blogging at work!  Ironic I know.  At lunch today I decided I needed a few more DIY supplies.  And well I wanted to get out of the office for a few minutes.  I went to Michaels and picked up some E-6000 glue, pink craft paint, a wooden E, and some paint brushes.  Currently I have several DIY projects in the works but I didn’t actually have everything I needed to complete any of them.  I needed the E-6000 to hold the ribbon on my flip flops.  I also needed it to attached the wire in my hangers.  Let me just say, when the box says “Well Ventilated area” they were NOT kidding.  My little headache has turned into a larger headache.  Oh well, it’s the price I pay for AMAZING flip flops.  Okay, technically I only have one almost finished.  But now I know what I’m doing and where this is going.  I think they are going to look great.  I just need to add a few jewels down the sides and I should be sparkly, under my dress. 🙂

I was also lucky enough to grab the last big wooden E Michaels had.  I want to make a personalized cake topper.  Since our wedding package will be very run of the mill I am trying to find small things, that will fit in my suitcase, that I can take to St. Lucia.  Wedding cake topper seemed like a very simple, easy and small item.  I bought the E, grabbed some hot pink craft paint and brushes and I was set, for now.  I got one side painted tonight and I will do the other side tomorrow.  I also want to put jewels on the whole thing.  I think this should take several hundred jewels and maybe a few years off my life but hopefully it will be worth it.

I guess I should list out the DIY projects I am working on or want to work on:  Monogram hangers – almost done, cake topper – in progress, wedding flip flops – near completion, bridal hoodie – want to do, I DO undies – want to do, plus my Save the Dates and my invitations.  I feel like I am missing a few things.  Eh.

Also, my Save the Dates are one step closer to completion.  A good friend of M and mine has offered to take a few pics of us.  I told him we weren’t looking for engagement pics, just a few up close ones of the two of us.  We are going to meet him downtown this weekend and hopefully by next week I will have a proof and they will be ready for print.  For now things are coming along pretty nicely.  Plus having crafts to do after work keeps me from drinking.  🙂

Here is a teaser of the flip flops.
